About The Dallas Strolling Strings

The Dallas Strolling Strings were formed in 1984 at the Nana Grill (then, the Loews Anatole), to perform for their premier restaurant in Dallas. Originally there were 5 musicians, consisting of 3 violins and 2 violas ("larger violins"). The strolling string group performed for the restaurant patrons as well as special events and visitors, like George Bush, Gerald Ford and Margaret Thatcher.

Our total group of 8 musicians allows us to appear outside the restaurant, at balls and receptions in the finest establishments and residences. Click on each member to view their bio.

The Dallas Strolling Strings is now available to entertain your guests and colleagues at your request.

Our sound is a unique one - a soothing, easy listening sound, yet full of musicianship and classical discipline - developed over years of performing together.

Although our main group consists of 3 violins, we also offer two to six strollers. Here are just a few audio samples:

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book music?

  • Gather your details (date, time, place); see if our music fits your event (demos); reserve the group with a deposit; have the balance ready at start of the event or pay the balance online sometime before the event.

What do I look for in a music group?

  • Experience with your type of event is essential. Musicians who have not done weddings, banquets, or strolling won't have the "sixth" sense to make a smooth, transparent performance. Our musicians have extensive experience in chamber music, weddings, strolling, black tie and orchestral performing.

What if my event is outside of Dallas?

  • There may be an extra charge for travel. Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton $50 higher.

Can I have musicians outside?

  • Musicians should not be exposed to direct sun, rain, temperatures below 60º or above 90ºF. Their instruments can be very expensive ($10K to $100K). Please let us know what conditions your event will be in ahead of time. Let us know if your event will be at the Dallas Arboretum or outside. Acoustic music does not carry far outside. PA/soundsystem is extra.

What will the musicians wear?

  • Black tie/black formal dress is the standard - suits/dresses can be requested too. Our favorite is tuxes without coats. On occasion, special costumes or colored tuxedos have been used, at additional cost.

Can I have a singer sing with the group?

  • No. No. No. We suggest using a keyboardist or karaoke CD that the singer is used to.

Can I request certain songs?

  • Most definitely!

Do I have to make a music list?

  • No - if you don't decide, we will perform appropriate pieces.
Where have the musicians performed?
  • Our musicians have performed in every major venue and mansion in Dallas and Fort Worth. We often play for the very wealthy, but some for the not-so-wealthy.
